ENCLOSURE AND PAVILION FOR CLASE AZUL.

The project is about the construction of a welcoming reception area for visitors at the Clase Azul Tequila Hacienda. Since both enclosed and open spaces were required, the proposal was resolved through a scheme that includes a pavilion and a surrounding open enclosure.The pavilion is composed of a pair of asymmetrical brick half-vaults, oriented north-south, whose intrados rests on a central beam visible from the interior of the space.This beam is hollowed out to function as a rain gutter and drains into ponds located at both ends of the nave. The vaults displacement in their longitudinal axes creates entrance and exit openings on the short sides of the pavilion, allowing separated accesses for two interior halls, which are equipped with lounge areas and bar services.The enclosure, as a spatial delimitation element, has been arranged so that part of the pre-existing native vegetation could remain, and also to collect fragments of landscape within the space, preserving the visual relationship with the central plaza of the masterplan. Likewise, the moderate height of the enclosure wall allows for a borrowed view of the surrounding oak forest on three sides. In this way, the open spaces enjoy a degree of privacy from the rest of the campus, which helps preserve a certain sense of discovery for visitors who will begin their journey from this place. Finally, the proposal’s materiality revives the idea ofusing stone excavated from the site, brick walls and vaults from the region, volcanic stone pavements, and elements of rough-faced concrete, such as lintels and pilasters, which selectively create openings throughout the enclosure, whose curved outline accentuates the sense of boundary.
